Architecture519 designed this innovative integrated care facility for the Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy, a Catholic Sisterhood based in Leeds.
The new care facility was designed to provide a range of care functions including independent living apartments, intensive care bedrooms and a 16 bed dementia care unit. The building was designed around and internal spine incorporating café and retail facilities. Mature gardens were retained to the south with the majority of the care rooms opening out on to the lawns.
A sensory garden was incorporated along with a carefully designed garden for dementia patients. The 75 bed facility was designed to sit comfortably within the local conservation area using local stone, dry stone walling and rendered facades. Timber louvres protected the south facing elevations from solar gain.
